How Flooring Quantity Is Calculated
Flooring is sold by the pack, and each pack covers a set number of square metres printed on the label. The calculator works out your room area, adds a wastage allowance for cuts and offcuts, then divides by pack coverage and rounds up — because half a pack isn't something you can order.
Formula Used
Room Area (m²) = Length × Width
Total Area = Room Area × (1 + Wastage %)
Packs = Total Area ÷ Pack Coverage (rounded up)
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I find the pack coverage?+
It's printed on the pack label and the product listing, usually between 1.8 and 2.5 m² for laminate. Enter the exact figure for your chosen product.
Should I buy an extra pack?+
It's worth keeping one spare pack from the same batch. Later production runs often differ slightly in shade, which shows up badly on repairs.
